Feeding Bettas

Let me Explain….

  1. Don’t Overfeed Them
    • Betta fish absolutely LOVE food and always act like they are starving. This can lure you into giving them too much food. Only give your fish a small amount, about what they can eat in about 30 seconds to a minute. Also, please note that the exact amount you give your fish varies from fish to fish. If your Betta seems starving give them a little more, and if they are constipated, even if they seem starving, feed less.
  2. Betta Fish are Primarily Carnivores
    • Their “staple diet” should be something with a high percent of protein and minimal fillers. This is what you should feed them most of the time.
  3. Who Doesn’t Love an Appetizer?
    • We like to indulge ourselves in the occasional appetizer, but if you are like me, that really only happens every once in a while. Same with giving Bettas the appetizers listed. In addition, you could also try melon or kiwi, but NO CITRUS FRUITS. You could also try some de-skinned sweet corn. Just like humans, fish don’t want to eat the same thing every single day. Switch it up! They also need nutrients besides protein, and a varied diet can help.
  4. Snack Time!!!!!!!!!
    • Just like you and me Bettas enjoy the occasional snack! Finley gets Hikari algae pellets every once in a while that sink to the bottom and soften. He will chew on it over the course of a couple days (Please note that any food left will rot so after a day or two remove any uneaten food). In addition, the micro pellets are so small they make great snacks!
  5. Yummy Things with Little Nutritional Value….
    • Bettas love these treats. Finley attacks freeze dried brine shrimp.
